Venue: The Barn, Block B, 3rd Floor, Woodstock Industrial Centre (Woodstock Exchange), 66 Albert Road, Woodstock

As part of the TEDWomen conference, local TEDx events around the world will be surfacing and celebrating innovative people in their own communities.

TEDWomen 2013 will celebrate invention in all its forms. Not just technology and things, but also solutions to poverty; approaches to peacemaking; expressions of art, and, at times, our own lives. Some of the questions we're asking:

  • How does geography impact innovation?
  • How do new technologies shape our lives?
  • How do great ideas take flight?
  • How can meaningful change be imagined, fostered, and scaled?

For the first time the Mother City will host a TEDxWomen event, live streaming TEDWomen in San Francisco, and showcasing a handful of South African women who have delivered groundbreaking ideas in their own disciplines.

Why attend?

Because over the past three years, TEDWomen has launched some powerful ideas into the world. In 2010, Sheryl Sandberg gave the talk that led to her groundbreaking book "Lean In." In 2011, Jane Fonda gave a mind-shifting talk on the unexpected "third act" in women's lives now. In 2012, Angela Patton told the unforgettable tale of a father-daughter dance … held in prison.

This year's program will deliver similarly groundbreaking ideas. Women are so often the creative powerhouses driving progress, and the active force crystalizing change in communities worldwide. From small, local solutions to global movements, the power of women's invention is visible in every region, in every field. And this is no different in South Africa, and particularly in our city.

TEDWomen is a TED event curated by TED and Pat Mitchell that focuses on women and women’s issues. TEDxWomen events are TEDx events hosted around the live webcast of TEDWomen, and may also feature local speakers. Our event is called TEDxCapeTownWomen and is one of many TEDx events happening around the globe on December 5 and 6 that will expand on the ideas brought up at TEDWomen.

Join us for an evening of sharing and networking as we launch the TEDxCapeTownWomen community.
